Erase Blemishes and Enhance the Smile with Cosmetic Dental Bonding By Dr. Treiber on July 28, 2014

Female patient with teeth free of blemishesFor many of our patients, one of the primary goals of dental treatment is to improve the appearance of the smile. With appropriate cosmetic treatment, Dr. Bruce E. Treiber can address a multitude of cosmetic flaws and create a beautiful smile for his patients. For patients with a multitude of cosmetic blemishes and imperfections, porcelain veneers can be applied to create the appearance of an ideal smile. While this is a great option for many patients, for those with a lesser degree of aesthetic concerns, and those looking for a less-invasive and non-permanent solution, cosmetic dental bonding may be a more appropriate treatment option. For our Canton patients, cosmetic dental bonding uses are numerous, allowing Dr. Treiber to address a wide range of cosmetic concerns in order to enhance the natural beauty of the smile.

Cosmetic Dental Bonding Uses

Cosmetic dental bonding is a dental treatment with a great deal of applications. Dental bonding is a treatment procedure in which a tooth-colored composite material is applied to trouble spots on the teeth in order to conceal cosmetic blemishes and imperfections. Once shaped and hardened into place, the dental bonding material blends in with the teeth so that patients achieve a natural-looking smile that is free of cosmetic flaws. This is one of the most affordable and least invasive cosmetic dental procedures, making in an excellent treatment option for patients who require mild to moderate cosmetic enhancement of the teeth. Dental bonding can be used to conceal the following types of dental imperfections:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored or stained teeth
  • A tooth that is misshapen
  • A tooth that is too short in length
  • A tooth with exposed roots or a gap at the gum line
  • A large gap of space between the teeth

By correcting the above imperfections with cosmetic dental bonding, Dr. Treiber can give patients a more attractive and uniform smile.

Alternate Treatments

Cosmetic dental bonding is extremely versatile in its dental uses, but it is not the best treatment option in all situations. While the tasks that can be achieved with dental bonding are numerous, patients should understand that this procedure is best suited for those who have only minor imperfections or a small number of problem teeth that require treatment. Treating a great number of teeth with dental bonding is simply not practical. For instance, cosmetic dental bonding can improve the color of a discolored tooth or conceal a few small surface stains, but patients with a mouthful of stained or discolored teeth would be better suited for a teeth whitening treatment. Similarly, patients who suffer from a great variety of cosmetic dental problems may want to consider a more inclusive dental treatment, such as porcelain veneers. After assessing patients’ unique needs and desires, Dr. Treiber will recommend an appropriate treatment plan for achieving their cosmetic goals.
