Tooth Extraction
Because Dr. Treiber takes a conservative approach to dentistry, he only performs extractions as a last resort and will first try to save your tooth through a root canal or other procedure. However, he may recommend an extraction if your tooth is too badly damaged to save, poorly positioned or impacted. Extraction may also be required for orthodontic reasons or if your tooth has been affected by serious gum disease.
Tooth extractions are often combined with dental implants. In these cases, an oral surgeon or periodontist will perform the extraction, so that you only have to undergo one procedure. If you are having a full mouth extraction, Dr. Treiber will perform it over three to four appointments to make your recovery easier.
Simple Wisdom Tooth Removal
Most people have a set of wisdom teeth, or a third set of molars, that typically erupt between ages 18 and 24. However, for the vast majority of patients, wisdom teeth are misaligned, painful, or impacted. We refer cases of impacted teeth to a specialist, who will remove the tooth in sections, but we perform simple wisdom tooth removal in the office.
Crown Lengthening
Sometimes, crown lengthening, or the removal of some gum tissue, is required before performing restorative procedures, such as crowns and fillings. To do this, he will first anesthetize the area around the tooth and then move the gums away from the teeth.. This exposes more of the tooth, granting access to troubled areas, or providing a more ample foundation for restoration.
