Crafting Custom Dentures
The first step in providing patients with dentures is a thorough examination and consultation with Dr. Bruce Treiber. Together, you will discuss what type of dentures might be best for you, and Dr. Treiber will identify any underlying conditions, such as periodontal disease, that must be addressed before fitting you with dentures. After attending to these issues, and performing any necessary extractions, your dentist will make impressions of your jaws, which he will send to an offsite domestic lab. Technicians will use these impressions to create your custom dentures. While you wait for your new teeth, we can provide you with temporary dentures. It usually takes about four weeks for the dentures to be completed. After receiving your dentures, you will likely need to return for adjustments to ensure a proper fit.
Full and Partial Dentures
Full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth. They are built on a flesh-colored plastic base that mimics the appearance of gums, and are held in place by a mild adhesive. Partial dentures, or bridges, are designed to replace a group of missing teeth. They can either attach to adjacent dental crowns, or a dental implant.
Immediate Placement Dentures
We also offer immediate placement dentures, which are created before your teeth are extracted, and can be fit on the same day. Because the models are made before your teeth are removed, the fit is not always as precise as traditional dentures, and will require several adjustments as the jaw and gums heal. During your initial consultation, Dr. Treiber will help determine if immediate placement dentures are right for you.
A denture supported by dental implants offers permanent tooth replacement that looks and feels like your natural teeth. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically implanted in the jaw to replace lost tooth roots. They require three to six months of healing time as they become permanently fused to the jaw bone, but can provide a lifetime of outstanding support for your dentures. Implant-supported dentures are specially crafted to attach to dental implants, creating a superior level of stability. Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures will not slip out of place. With implant-supported dentures, you can smile, speak, and bite into foods such as apples and corn on the cob with complete confidence.
